Ponderosa Farm and Equestrian Centre
Ponderosa Farm and Equestrian Centre was founded in 1967 and is situated on the Linstead bypass in Bog Walk, St. Catherine. Through the years many riders have been a part of the Wates family. Mrs. Betty Wates (Mothers) is a top coach in Jamaica and has been a long standing representative of the EJF to the FEI – she serves a member of their nomination committee. Ponderosa host riding camp that give riders locally and from many countries the opportunity to stay at the Wates home to experience not only coaching in dressage, show jumping and cross country but fun events such as trail riding, swimming in rivers and farm life. Riders are also taught about the keep and care of the horses and this gives them the tools to become successful riders. The Centre has a show jumping arena and the only cross country course in Jamaica.
The tradition continues as our new resident coach Julian Hyde'(he is level 2 FEI coach) who has been a student of Mrs. Wates for many years is now teaching and training at Ponderosa.
